Executive Health Screening: What Gets Checked and Why It Matters

By Knightsbridge Doctors

A comprehensive health screening is, at its core, an act of taking your future health seriously. At Knightsbridge Doctors, we have designed our screening packages around the principle that catching a problem early is always better than catching up to it later.

Our screening packages are named after London's most distinguished neighbourhoods: Chelsea, Mayfair, Burlington, and Knightsbridge. Each tier builds upon the last, providing increasingly comprehensive assessment. All packages begin with a detailed health questionnaire and an in-depth consultation with one of our experienced GPs.

The blood panel forms the foundation of every screening. We test full blood count (assessing red cells, white cells, and platelets for signs of anaemia, infection, or blood disorders), kidney and liver function, thyroid function, nutrition markers including iron studies, vitamin B12 and folate, bone metabolism markers including calcium, phosphate and vitamin D, a complete cholesterol profile, and glucose with HbA1c (a marker of blood sugar control over the preceding three months). For men, we add prostate profile, testosterone and sex hormone binding globulin.

These blood tests can reveal conditions that have no symptoms in their early stages. A rising HbA1c may indicate pre-diabetes years before full diabetes develops. A vitamin D deficiency, remarkably common in London, can contribute to fatigue, bone weakness, and low mood. An abnormal liver function test may be the first sign of fatty liver disease, now the most common liver condition in the UK.

MRI scanning is included in all our packages. The Chelsea package includes MRI of the head, neck, chest, abdomen, and pelvis. This comprehensive imaging can detect tumours, aneurysms, organ abnormalities, and structural issues that would otherwise go undetected until they cause symptoms. MRI uses no radiation, making it safe for repeated screening.

Our higher-tier packages add CT coronary arteries, which provides a detailed picture of the blood vessels supplying your heart. Coronary heart disease is one of the UK's leading causes of death (responsible for around 68,000 deaths each year according to the British Heart Foundation) and often presents with no warning until a heart attack occurs. A CT coronary scan can detect calcification and narrowing in the coronary arteries, allowing preventive treatment before a cardiac event.

The screening process is designed to be thorough without being stressful. Blood tests can be conducted at our Wimpole Street partner laboratory, at our Knightsbridge Doctors clinic, or via home visit within the M25 area. MRI and CT scans are arranged at a convenient time. Following all assessments, you will have a comprehensive follow-up consultation with your GP to review every result in detail.

Within one week of your follow-up consultation, you will receive a comprehensive written report detailing your current health status and specific recommendations. If any specialist referrals are needed, our extensive network built over decades of Central London practice ensures you are connected with the right consultant for your situation.

The cost of our packages ranges from £2,600 (Chelsea) to £4,700 (Knightsbridge). To book your health screening, email Marie-Therese at our practice with your preferred package and appointment dates, and she will coordinate your appointments.
